Extra Credit
Extra credit is just that--extra. It is not easy, but it can be enjoyable and interesting.
Perfect completion of this assignment will result in three percentage points being added to a students overall grade. This assignment is not made available to student who have missed more than seven classes. Those students are advised to drop the course.
Option 1
 Write a formal paper analyzing research in one of the suggested communication fields.
 Paper must be 6 pages, double spaced 12 point type, one inch margins, in text citations of research.
 Paper should include a works cited page, in MLA, of at least 6 sources.
 One of the sources must be an interview from a professional in the field.
 The remaining research should come from scholarly internet sources--online journals, research institutes web-pages--or scholarly journals.
 All of the research articles must be printed out in their entirety and attached to the paper.
 Interview questions and answers must be typed out and turned in with the paper. No less than 10 interview questions are acceptable.
Topics to be researched:
 Doctor patient communication
 Nonverbal communication in sales
 How the classroom setting affects communication in the class
 Language used by advertisers
 Compliance gaining strategies in management
 Cultural barriers to communication in the workplace
 Effects of mass communication on a culture
Option 2:
 Videotape 30 minutes of communication examples relating to one of suggested topics
 Need to videotape 10 clips of 3 minutes each
 1 Clip should be an interview with a professional
 Write a two page paper--12 point type, double spaced, 1 inch margins--to accompany videotape. Paper should include at least 2 scholarly sources cited in MLA.
 Need full description of each clip and name and phone number of each person in video clip
Topics to be videotapes
 Effects of television on children, teens, or adults
 Examples of cultural differences
 Persuasive techniques
 Interview professionals about conflict management strategies/ show conflicts
Both options need to go beyond what we covered in class
